| Fall 2008 Dance Class Descriptions
|
| Toddler Movement [30 minutes] |
| Ages 2-3 years old an introduction to movement, gymnastics and dance. The main goal of this class is to prep the children for the preschool level dance classes through following the instructor and learning how to be in class with other students and without a parent. Click here for class schedule. |
| Preschool Dance [45 minutes] |
| Ages 3-4 years old an introduction to dance. The primary goal is to foster a love of movement. The children will learn the basics of ballet, jazz and creative movement while also learning how to follow the teacher in a structured environment. Basic dance vocabulary is taught along with special activities using props and narrative dancing to show expression through dance. The 4 year old class builds on the components learned in the 3 year old class, but newcomers are still very welcome in the older class! Click here for class schedule. |
| Kindergarten Dance [1 hour] |
| Age 5 class that builds on the children's knowledge in ballet and jazz. The exciting part about the 5 yr old class is that the children are introduced to Tap dancing! The last 15 minutes of every class will focus solely on the basics of tap dancing. Tap shoes required. |
Boys Only Classes [30 minutes to 45 minutes] |
| We offer a "boys only" schedule for ages 3-12 years old. This schedule offers prechool boys dance to 3-5 year olds, Jazz HipHop class for 6-12 year olds and Tap class for 6-12 year olds. Each class is geared to foster that love of dance and movement in an environment that they are comfortable in. |
| Introductory Ballet/Jazz Combo |
| Ages 6-7 years old and introduces the children to the formal structure of a ballet class and a jazz class. The students will be challenged with more vocabulary and tested through out the year while they learn the proper order of class and start correcting technique. Click here for class schedule. |
| Ballet [1 hour up to 1 hour 15 minutes] |
| The basis and backbone of all dance styles. The classes focuses on proper technique and order of class. Each level builds on the preceding level. Our ballet classes start at age 8 and go through high school. Our levels do not follow the number of years they have been dancing or their school grade. Please see the front desk if you are unsure what level to sign up for. Click here for class schedule. |
| Pointe [45 minutes to 1 hour] |
| This class builds on years of multiple ballet classes a week. Students learn Pointe technique and build up to performing some of the classics and other pieces on pointe. Only Teacher Recommendations can place a student in a Pointe Class. |
A ballet technique and performance class geared towards an intermediate-advanced dancer ages 10 and up. Pointe I starts the dancers in an introductory class where shoe maintenance and basic pointe strength and technique are emphasized. Pointe II and Pointe III take the dancers with prior pointe experience to a new level that includes performing on pointe and learning combinations from the classics. Dancers must have a teacher recommendation to take pointe classes and must also take at least two other ballet technique classes during the week. |
| Tap [45 minutes to 1 hour] |
Our studio does not focus on a particular style of tap. Our teachers are well-qualified in both rhythm tap and broadway/classic tap. We primarily focus on drilling the basics of flaps and shuffles before learning the many complicated steps of tap. Tap at any level is a great fast-paced class that is also very challenging. We offer multiple levels of tap for ages 6 through high school and all-boys tap classes as well. Click here for class schedule. |
| Jazz and HipHop [45 minutes to 1 hour] |
Jazz style of dance is what is seen in many Broadway shows, or even Celine Dion's Vegas Show. It has a technique based off of ballet, but also based off of modern/contemporary dance. HipHop is what you see in music videos and commercials —performances such as concerts by Britney Spears, Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake along with movies like Step Up and High School Musical would be examples of HipHop.
We offer jazz classes for ages 8 and up, and age-appropriate HipHop classes for ages 6 and up. HipHop has grown into a technical form of dancing as well and we are very excited to now offer a full curriculum of levels and ages! Click here for jazz class schedule. | Competition & Performance Companies [5 + hours/week] |
Audition only and for the dancer who wants to experience multiple classes a week. The difference between the two companies is simply the amount of travel involved. The performance company will stay and do local performances and possibly an in-state competition, with a few weekend rehearsals. The competition company will have multiple weekend rehearsals and travel to Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte for regional competitions during the school year and Orlando, New York, Las Vegas, etc for a possible Nationals Competition in the summer. Both groups must take two ballet, two jazz and one tap class every week — Please see the front desk for more information (Auditions are in June!!) |
| Gymnastics/Cheer |
| Gymnastics with Coach Blanca is available for 3-8 year olds and teaches kids the basics of floor, beam, and barre gymnastics. Our cheer class is available to 6-9 year olds and combines the sharp motions and movements of cheerleading with the techniques and disciplines of dance into a fun fast-moving class. |
| Adult Classes |
| Our adult classes are designed for both the beginner dancer and those who are eager to get back to dance. These classes are an amazing workout for all ages in a non-gym environment. Classes are low-impact and we have sprung dance floors to help provide a a safe and enjoyable workout. |
